Café Rathaus, a Munich poster from 1912
Valentin Zietara (1883–1935) created this advertising poster for Café Rathaus on Munich’s Marienplatz. Dated 1912, the original lithograph was printed by G. Schuh & Cie. It is an example of early twentieth-century German commercial graphic design.
Two figures around a coffee service
Two symmetrical figures dressed in blue flank a coffee pot, cups and an ornamented central form. The gold cord linking the composition reinforces its balance and guides the eye towards the café’s name.
Turquoise blue, gold and cream on black
The restricted palette gives the image a strong decorative presence. The inscriptions “Café Rathaus”, “Marienplatz”, “Josef Schottenhaml” and “München”, together with Zietara’s signature, are integral to this historic composition.

Our frames measure 1.7 cm on each side. For a 40x60 cm painting, the total framed size is therefore 43.4 x 63.4 cm.
Canvas 100% polyester (285 g/m²), UV-resistant and solvent-free inks, safe for children and allergy sufferers. The canvases are mounted on a 2 cm thick wooden frame (4 cm for very large formats).
