Franz Marc, a pioneer of the German Expressionist movement, is renowned for his ability to capture the essence of nature. Born in 1880, he was influenced by renowned artists such as Vincent van Gogh and Henri Matisse. Co-founder of the group "Der Blaue Reiter", Marc always sought to free art from its traditional conventions, favoring an emotional and colorful approach. Animals, often at the heart of his works, were for him a way to explore deep and complex emotions, as brilliantly demonstrated by Two Black Cats Lying Down. Although his career was tragically cut short by World War I, his impact on modern art remains immeasurable.
