William Merritt Chase, master of American Impressionism
William Merritt Chase's work is situated at the crossroads between realism and Impressionism in the United States at the end of the 19th century. A student of the academic tradition and influenced by European colors and free brushwork, Chase revolutionized portraiture and still life with vivid light and virtuoso brushwork. Among his famous works are scenes of urban life and luminous interiors that inspired many American painters. This art print offers a glimpse into the spirit of an artist attentive to chromatic harmonies and expressive vitality, while maintaining the finesse characteristic of his painting.
