A pilot and a direct invitation
A smiling pilot gives a thumbs-up beside an aircraft cockpit. His blue flying clothes occupy the centre of Coming? Then Hurry!, while another aircraft crosses the cloudy sky. Large red lettering guides the eye from the question at the top to the RAAF initials below.
The raised arm and extended leg give the composition a diagonal movement. Blue clothing stands out against the grey fuselage, with the warm colours of the equipment adding another contrast.
Reading a wartime recruitment image
This poster called for RAAF aircrew during the Second World War. The cheerful figure and the word “NOW” combine reassurance with urgency, making the invitation easy to understand at a glance.
As a reproduction, it offers a way to examine how illustration and lettering worked together in wartime communication. It can form part of an aviation display in a study or a room devoted to historical graphic design.
